Great Directors (2009)
written and directed by Angela Ismailos
This documentary exploring the art of filmmaking somehow never manages to catch fire, despite interesting interviews with the likes of independent directors such as David Lynch, Richard Linklater, Catherine Breillat, and others. The art-house vibe (complete with classical music) doesn’t help, and neither do the scenes of documentarian Angela Ismailos walking around and looking intensely serious as she ponders what her idols have to say about the meaning of cinema. You’re better off watching the actual films instead.
