The Meg (2018)
written by Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber, and Erich Hoeber
based on the novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten
directed by Jon Turteltaub
You’d think that a movie pitting Jason Statham against a gigantic megalodon would be more fun than this. But The Meg – in which a group of scientists discover the prehistoric monster shark and call on rescue diver Statham for help – doesn’t fully commit to the campy pleasures of its premise, landing in that same tepid zone of all post-Jaws (1975) films (the PG-13 rating certainly doesn’t help). Too bad. The Meg had all the makings of a B-movie gorefest like Piranha 3D (2010), but it’s just a boring slog. Meh-galodon indeed.
